Our Trip to Ireland

Arrival on the Emerald Isle

From March 16^th to March 23^rd our class, 3AS, went on a trip to Wexford, Ireland. We were accompanied by our teachers Ms Stampfl and Mr Paulmichl.

“Don’t worry, be happy”! This was the quote our trip was based on. It was one of the very first sentences our bus driver, Jim, quoted at our first meeting at Dublin Airport. Jim stayed with us the whole week, always ready with a joke or information about the area, also offering us loads of advice on practical issues, but also giving us goose bumps with some  of his gory stories. After arriving at the airport Jim drove us south for about two hours where we waited full of excitement for our host families to pick us up.

St. Patrick’s Day

We were lucky to be able to spend St. Patrick’s  Day in Dublin, where we attended one of the biggest St. Patrick’s parades worldwide with all the performances and creations presented to the eager public. Of course we didn’t miss the sights of Dublin and we were impressed by this charming city and all the people dressed in green who had met up to celebrate in the streets and later in the day in Temple Bar.

Slaney Language School

Every morning we had lessons in Slaney Language School, where we worked together with people from different nationalities, which was very interesting.

Out into the Green Countryside and down to the Beaches

In the afternoons we had different activities and one of the highlights was the Hook Lighthouse. It was a really magical place. First it was all foggy around us and we could barely see the lighthouse. After walking along the imposing cliffs for a while, it finally started to open up and we got the chance to see the breathtaking view.

Other memorable activities were the Curracloe Beachwalk, where two girls got out their bikinis and plunged into the cold Irish sea, then the bonfire at night, where we sang Irish songs and ate melted marshmallows and the afternoons, where we walked through Wexford and explored its lovely little shops, and also the evening when we went bowling and improvised some dances.

Farewell

At the end of the week we had got a huge insight into Irish culture and lifestyle and we could also practise our English wonderfully. So and we were sad to leave, also thanks to the host families who had been so welcoming. We had had a lot of fun and we will remember the week forever.
