English Theatre

Review of “Hamlet” by Clive Duncan (and Vienna’s English Theatre)

Shakespeare’s name is constantly thrown around in popular culture. However, many of us had their first real encounter with the famous playwright on 23rd November 2018 when Vienna’s English Theatre performed “Hamlet” for a group of students. Rightly, the four talented actors presented this tale of revenge and madness as a “first date” with Shakespeare: short, clear and charming. Whilst they were trying to be slightly too modern and funny at times, the performance luckily never lost its focus on the main topics such as Hamlet’s frantic search to take action against his vicious uncle.

Overall, I would say it was a fairly intriguing first date – one that certainly piqued our interest in Shakespeare’s legacy.
